Hello everyone! I am currently in Nelspruite, South Africa! We are staying at Crazy Dave’s hostile for five days to debrief. I am in a cozy little cabin tucked back in what feels like a literal rainforest. I am sitting on the back deck of my cabin listening to the birds chirp and the stream run. It is restful; THEREFORE, a fantastic place to write some blogs.

I wanted to apologize for not updating you all more. I have so many blog ideas, but I have struggled with this idea that every update has to be this deep, radical, and divine revelation. I also struggle writing about things that I haven’t fully processed myself, and processing everything that happens is proving to be quite hard. I know these are lies from the enemy just trying to keep me from sharing anything. The truth is people want to know the simple things and writing blogs helps me process. I don’t have to be perfect for the Lord to use me, so buckle in for all the twists and turns of the upcoming posts. The Lord did so much in JBay. πŸ™‚

RADIO STATION

My team had the privilege of recording some short clips for a Christian radio station in JBay. It is called Oasis FM: Bringing Living Water. We all had a short time to introduce ourselves and share some encouragement! Some of us share testimonies, gave an encouraging word, or read a Bible verse. My team also came up with a new jingle for the station! It was so fun!

ORPHANAGE!!

Last month my team was able to go to 7th Heaven, one of the orphanages that the Timion garden helps support! It was so precious. The kids’ names were Welcome, Rejoice, Blessing, Twinkie, Boy, Comfort, October, and Angel. Rejoice is a young girl, and she loves to be held. She doesn’t speak much English yet, but her sweet personality matches her name. She was always rejoicing, and her big smile and soft giggles were so contagious. She loves to blow kisses and is such a little goof with her brothers and sisters. Welcome is a little baby boy. He also lives up to his name πŸ˜‰ His little hands wave big, his smile hits your heart, and he too loves to be held. Blessing, a boy about thirteen years old, is learning to play the guitar and his tender, loving heart is so evident. He was amazed by the fact that I was a lifeguard, can play the guitar, and can do real push ups. I thought that was pretty funny and sweet. Boy is eleven, and he loves to entertain. He is also such a helper. October, is a spunky little girl who loves to chat. All of the kids were so sweet and honestly being with them encouraged me to live in the fullness of the Lord’s joy. My heart is full and I will not forget these priceless moments.

I went surfing a few times in JBay, and I absolutely loved it. I am not a pro by any means, but I could stand up and actually ride the waves after they had broke. It was so much fun! I failed a lot, but I am realizing that is actually so healthy for me. I need to fail at things, so I can learn that failing isn’t fatal and I can live in His grace.

My entire squad was able to go to the Timion garden and have worship with the Timion community. It was so sweet to be able to share our ministry with the entire squad. It truly is a special place with very special people. They worship the Lord with everything in them, and I am so grateful my squad was able to experience it.

RAINBOW SCHOOL!!

Right before PVT I was able to go to a school for disabled children with a physical therapist from Timion. It was such a full circle moment! I had been working with Timion for almost two months at that point with having hardly any connection to who this ministry was helping. Going to Rainbow School was incredible. I was able to interact with the kids by playing with them, feeding them, and helping them get in and out of their equipment. Watching these kids use the equipment that I helped build moved me in many ways. It was humbling, but it also brought so much joy! These children desperately need this equipment, and Timion is literally improving their quality of life so much. If the kids didn’t have this equipment they would simply lay down all day long and regress very quickly. This school of 18 children is a very small fraction of the kids that Timion helps. It was such an honor to be a part of this ministry and have the opportunity to love on a few of the children it impacts. Thank you God for loving these children, working through them, and for people like the Timion staff that pour their lives into these amazing kids and families.

I have more updates coming this week! I want to share about BIG things the Lord has taught me, hard goodbyes, and PVT!

I pray this week has been restful for you! I pray you live for the Lord daily. He will use you every day if you allow Him to. πŸ™‚

I love you all, and so does Jesus!

  1. Awww your post was just what I needed on this cloudy cold day!

It warmed my heart hearing how God is working in and through you. Watching God work in others as well as my own life is the best! You’re correct in saying He will use us everyday, “If” we allow Him too.

So thankful for the wonderful opportunities God has given you during your mission. Although the lesson have been HARD….He keeps His promise through them or turning them into the good. This is a lesson He is teaching me! Sometimes the lessons are overwhelming…but it is probably because my eyes focus on the problem instead of staying on Him. Ugh!!!

I love you girl….thanks soooo much for sharing! Your love for others is contagious!

    Finish STRONG!! You got this……

    Love, Aunt Colleen

  4. Abby – It is great to hear from you! Your experiences in South Africa show how God is using you and stretching you to the be the woman he wants you to be! The time with the children in South Africa and Guatemala seem to be a highlight. I know God will use you in big ways in Ecuador as well!
